Background:
Mongla Port and Chittagong Port serve as Bangladesh's primary international seaborne trade hubs, but faced with capacity constraints due to rapid economic growth, particularly in the export-oriented apparel sector, the government is strategically revitalizing Mongla Port with upgraded facilities, significant investment in projects like procuring Cutter Suction Dredgers, Pilot and Dispatch Boats, and Navigational Aids, alongside dredging activities, with the proposed PPP project crucial in the broader initiative to redevelop Mongla Port and establish a special economic zone.
Objective:
To develop international standard port facilities for berthing of ships and cargo handling.
Project Scope:
To deliver international standard port facilities and cargo handling services by constructing, operating and maintaining two jetties with ancillary backup facilities and terminal handling equipment.
Status:
The project is in Development phase.
