BTMC, established under the President Order no. 27, 1972 under the Ministry of Textile and Jute, initially operated 74 Nationalized Mills and established another 12 mills during 1975-85, but due to globalization/free market economy, the government de-nationalized 65 mills during 1977-2010, leaving 23 existing mills with BTMC in various prime zones, most of which are not operational; currently, BTMC is striving to attract local and foreign investors for modern Textile mills through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), aiming to establish a Composite Green Textile with Apparel and backward linkage, considering the total land area of the mills to be 32.2 Acres, and recognizing the unstable and obsolete conditions of existing structures and machineries which necessitate dismantling and treatment as plain land/green field.
