Background: |
Air traffic flow in Bangladesh is rapidly increasing day by day. Existing infrastructure facilities of the airports in Bangladesh are not sufficient to meet the future air traffic demand of the country. At present, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka is the busiest airport of the country, through which about 80% of the total air traffic flow takes place. It has an area of 1981 acres (802ha) land. To ensure future demand government build new Airport called 3rd Terminal Building and to ensure world class seamless operation government decide to Operation and maintenance of this new terminal will be under PPP mode and approved the project on January 2023.

Objective: |
To provide safe, secured, affordable and international standard airport terminal services, the project namely ‘Operation and Maintenance of 3rd Terminal Building at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA)’ has been proposed under PPP. Besides, taking into consideration the issue of passengers suffering, Govt. decided the ground and cargo handling activities of the new third terminal will be outsourced to an international quality organization.

Project Scope: |
Bangladesh’s main airport has been criticized for inadequate passenger service and baggage handling. However, the new terminal is expected to play a significant role in the country’s trade and commerce besides providing international standard facilities and amenities to local and international passengers. |
Status: |
The project is in development phase, preparing for detailed feasibility study by IFC. |
